It’s December – well almost, and this is a week that has something for everyone!
For those more into the contemporary scene, Tonight and tomorrow you can still see Chunking, the plastic orchid factory evening-length ensemble work which explores how we relate to what we see. This playful and visually compelling piece is created in collaboration with lighting designer James Proudfoot, media artist Josh Hite, sound designer Kevin Legere and five contemporary dance artists. Sunday Dec 2 Dance Allsorts and the Vancouver Tap Dance Society presents It’s About Time. With live jazz musicians, the dancers engage audiences in an unforgettable percussive conversation that features tones, syncopated rhythms and over the top steps executed in rapid fire succession. Opening this Thursday Dec 6 thru Saturday Dec 8, is the much anticipated Karoshi, Shay Kuebler’s full-length work dealing with “death from overwork”. Kuebler draws on his work in martial arts, hip hop and contemporary dance to create physically explosive, high energy choreography for an outstanding all-male ensemble, incorporating live taiko drumming (by Uzume Taiko’s Jason Overy) and video.
