Our Friend Hofesh

Did you fall in love with Hofesh Shechter when he and his company visited in November ’09? (Or were you in the “it’s too loud” camp? Leave us a comment, we’d love to know.)

At any rate, we certainly did, and we’re now watching him with misty, yet beady eyes to see what he’ll do next.

Apparently, he’ll create some amazing contemporary dance.

Read The Guardian’s Judith Mackrell (one of our favourite dance critics) on Hofesh’s new piece, Political Mother. She gives it a 4/5, calling it “a work of galvanising challenging power.” With folk dance as the dominant movement vocabulary, he examines how tradition can both liberate and oppress.

We’re so happy to have brought this rising talent to Vancouver for the first time, and look forward to hosting him and his company again.
