LolaThursday of next week (September 30), a book launch celebrating the life and work of the late and much-missed Vancouver choreographer Lola MacLaughlin takes place at 5:30pm at the Scotiabank Dance Centre.

Susan Elliott will perform an excerpt from Princess, Infanta, Queen, a hauntingly beautiful solo and Lola’s last dance creation.  Lola Dance – Lola MacLaughlin: A Life in Dance is a collection of photos, drawings, posters, lists – artifacts of her creative life – and essays from a group of writers who knew and loved her. The book, edited by Carol Anderson and Dorothy Woodend, includes contributions from Max Wyman, Susan Elliott, Brian Webb, Kaija Pepper, Mary Theresa Kelly and Stephen White, who will read from their work at the free event.

All proceeds from the sale of the $35 book will be donated to the Lola Legacy Fund, a cash prize awarded to a British Columbia dance artist engaged in the creation of performance work of the highest order. The Lola Legacy Fund constitutes an important new addition to the support of artists in Canada.
