The Friday Round Up

Huzzah! We have survived another week.

Shall we celebrate with some dance?

The Dance Centre presents, as part of the Global Dance Connections series, the world premiere of dancer-choreographer Helen Walkley’s new work How is Sleep Beautiful. Tickets are $28/$20 at and she talked about it with DanceHouse media sponsor The Georgia Straight here.  Sounds interesting, and also features a bit from The Sound of Music, to continue with Wednesday’s theme. Shows Oct 1 & 2, 8pm.

At the Firehall Oct. 6-9, 8 pm Kinesis Dance presents a production exploring the notion of confinement, possession, and masculine dominance. More information at

And, for something COMPLETELY different, The National Dance Company of Ukraine kicks off their cross-Canada tour with a cast of 55 dancers telling a story through lyrical dance, with lavish costumes, acrobatic leaps, and sword dancing October 7 at the Centre. Tickets at Ticketmaster.

Planning ahead? Why not attend DanceHouse’s House Party October 14? You’ll get a tax receipt, delicious food and wine, a peek into a spectacularly hip house, and a specially commissioned solo piece by Wen Wei Wang. On the fence? Watch this space in days to come. We’re going to post the menu, and it’s going to be DELICOUS.
