The Friday Round Up

Well hello, Friday. You’re looking AWESOME.

First things first. Very excited about the coming season. Oh yes, we are. Janet Smith called both Louise Lecavalier and La La La Human Steps “bucket-list stuff”, and about Wayne McGregor said, “miss this and it sucks to be you.” New for DanceHouse this year, you can redeem your Aeroplan Miles for a subscription (clicky to do so.)

Read all the many splendid choices for the upcoming dance season in the Straight’s Fall Arts Preview right here.

Today, tomorrow and Sunday, the DanceCentre holds its annual open house. A dizzying array of events, from free classes to guided tours to performances. Full schedule here.

New Works opens its Dance Allsorts season with Shakti Dance and TomoeArts on Sunday at 2pm at the Roundhouse. Recognized for their authenticity and gestural beauty of their respective dance forms the Vancouver dance companies come together to present a shared bill of solo dances. One dance form originates from the temples of South India and the other from Japan’s kabuki theatre and geisha traditions.

If you’re a planner, on Thursday the 22nd, Bhangra Unleashed: UBC Girlz Dancestravaganza! happens at the Museum of Vancouver at 7pm. The Vancouver-based South Asian dance troupe gives a performance. Discussion to follow. More information at Tix $15.
