The Friday Round Up

Dana GingrasIt’s the weekend, and you know what that means. It’s time to round up the week’s upcoming dance events.

First, we need to remind you about the DanceHouse House Party, coming up October 6  (Thursday), and featuring a site-specific piece by Noam Gagnon, delicious snackies, yummy wine, and an all ’round good time. Details here, or email bonnie@dancehouse.ca

Tonight through Sunday, the Vancouver Flamenco Festival takes place at various venues around town. Heavy-hitting international talent mingles with locals. More information at www.vancouverflamencofestival.org

Also in a flamenco vein, Saturday’s regular flamenco night takes place at The Wired Monk in Kits. Intimate, live music, $8.

Tuesday, October 4, marks the opening of the new work from Animals of Distinction’s Dana Gingras (The Holy Body Tattoo). Heart as Arena explores ideas of receptivity, transmission, and the secret language of electricity that animates heart, mind, and muscle. Tix from $16 at tickets.thecultch.com

Also, in case you have been living under a rock, (or don’t listen to CBC), it is Culture Days, all weekend long. The full website is here: http://bc.culturedays.ca/

The Shadbolt Centre has an open rehearsal with MachineNoisy, and a performance by its dance instructors; in Richmond, Danceabil and the Richmond Chinese Community Society are offering studio tours and free classes, among many other events. Check out the website for things to do this weekend!
