The Friday Round Up

Sooo, you saw that video of Wayne McGregor | Random Dance’s ENTITY– pretty amazing right?  But not nearly as awe inspiring as the real thing, at the Playhouse Feb 10 and 11 8pm. This is a feast of eclectic art, a staggering blend of bodies, lights, technology and film.  McGregor has worked with everyone from the New York City Ballet, the Paris Opera Ballet and the Bolshoi – this guy is in demand! Come see what all the noise is about.

If you are reading this before 7pm (which we certainly hope you are or you’re going to miss out) come to the last night of Dances for a Small Stage! Dancers Cori Caulfield, Josh Beamish,Caroline Liffman and sisters Thoenn and Yeva Glover are some of the dance artists who were given Grimm’s Fairy Tales as the jumping off point for their creations.  Get there early. 8pm Grandview Legion (6th and Commercial Dr) $20 cash 19+

Also this weekend the PuSh Festival and the Dance Centre present Andrea Božic’s  intelligent and quirky interdisciplinary works After Trio A and Beginning. After Trio A pays homage to Yvonne Rainer’s groundbreaking Trio A (1966) and her famous No Manifesto, which defied standard dance conventions: dancers Anne Cooper and Claire French learn a part of Trio A from a video, live in front of the audience, dissecting and amplifying the choreography and the learning process as they go. At the Dance Centre 8pm tonight and tomorrow.

New Animal is a multi media work choreographed by Dana Gringas  and danced by members of the The 605 collective.  Suffused with raw, unbridled energy, groove, ludic interaction and a hunger for movement, the performers reclaim their animal bodies as a means of becoming fully human. At the Cultch, opens Tuesday, runs until Feb 11 8pm. Tix from $16.
