It’s June already!  Summer fun in the city – still lots of dance to see!

May 31st to June 10 The Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration (VIBC) Society will host its eighth annual HSBC City of Bhangra Festival.  The festival includes free concerts and dance performances at the Vancouver Art Gallery, bhangra workshops, a bhangra conference and percussion events and  new this year, Celebrate the Harvest, a bhangra block party in Surrey where the beats, rhythms and movements of Bhangra come alive with local singing sensations and bhangra dance teams. June 7-9 Kokoro Dance’s Artistic Director, Barbara Bourget, brings fifty years of dance experience to her creation of an evocative new solo A Simple Way.  Inspired by Japanese concepts of the profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe and the inevitable process of aging, Bourget collaborated with her composer and musician son, Joseph Hirabayashi to create the work.
