Meet Bernard!

It’s a new season, as well as a new school year, and changes are afoot! These are exciting times here at the DanceHouse office. After busting her butt to get DanceHouse off the ground, founder Barb Clausen is stepping back a bit, and taking on responsibility for community engagement. Which means that DanceHouse’s many generous individual donors will be in the capable hands of the lovely and charming Bernard Sauvé.

ImageFor the past 26 years Bernard has been actively involved in the professional Canadian dance sector. He began his career as a dancer with Ballet British Columbia and had the opportunity to learn a repertoire of contemporary works by choreographers such as Jiri Killian, William Forsythe, Serge Bennathan, Lola MacLaughlin, and many others.

Following his career as a dancer, Bernard applied himself in the area of arts management working with a number of dance organizations including Jumpstart, Ballet British Columbia and The Dance Centre.

In 1998 he co-founded Eponymous Productions and Management Inc., an organization dedicated to assisting arts organizations and individual artists working in Canadian dance, film, music theatre and the visual arts. Clients included The Holy Body Tattoo, Lola Dance, Vancouver New Music, Wen Wei Dance, and Kidd Pivot.

During this time he worked as a tour manager and general manager on the creation and production of a number of dance projects, many of which involved national and international co-production. He has been involved and has coordinated a number of regional, national and international tours (including projects for young audiences). In 2006 and 2009 Bernard worked as a Program Officer in the Dance Section at The Canada Council for the Arts.

Bernard has also been trained and certified in the Pilates method and has been responsible as a consultant for developing and implementing a series of ongoing courses, weekend workshops, and information sessions, for the YWCA of Vancouver, Yaletown Pilates, and One Pilates Studio in Hong Kong.

Bernard makes his DanceHouse debut at a reception for DanceHouse donors Friday, September 7 at 6pm at SFU Woodward’s, following an open rehearsal by Kidd Pivot. If you’d like to talk about your giving options with Bernard, don’t hesitate to send him an email or give him a call at 604.801.6225.
