The excellent internet compendium of interesting things, Brain Pickings, has an article from October 22 entitled “Dance is Like Thought: Helen Keller Visits Martha Graham’s Studio.”

Taken from Hello, Goodbye, Hello: A Circle of 101 Remarkable Meetings, a book by Craig Brown, blog writer Maria Popova details Keller’s first experience with dance. As Keller laid her remarkable hands on dancer Merce Cunningham (!), her reported words were, ‘Oh, how wonderful! How like thought! How like the mind it is!’

Click through to read the rest of this remarkable story, and check out this video from the 1954 documentary The Unconquered: Helen Keller in Her Story.
