The Friday Round Up

“…Fuel is epic…The virtuoso dancing was disturbing but so beautiful in its awkwardness and restlessness, that even when the dancers stopped it seemed as if their movement continued. It was impossible to look away.”(The Chronicle Herald, Halifax). It’s coming soon!

The PuSh Festival is well under way, and is co-presenting two  events this week with the Dance Centre’s Global Dance Connections.   This Friday through Sunday see one of Japan’s most exciting artists Hiroaki Umeda/S20 (Tokyo) in
Haptic Holistic Strata, two pieces that bring together light, sound and movement with astonishing force and styleAnd next week January 29 and 30Pieter Ampe + Guilherme Garrido/CAMPO (Ghent) present Still Standing You, a piece that tests the limits of friendship, rivalry and their own bodies in a rough-and-tumble montage of dance, gymnastics and wrestling. Daring, discomfiting and darkly hilarious, this is an astounding take on masculinity, aggression and tenderness. Both are at the Dance Centre, 8pm, Tix.

Tonight and tomorrow night , also co-presented by the PuSh Festival, you can still catch Ballet BC in their mixed bill Encore, with three works by William Forsyth, Jorma Elo and Medhi Walerski.  At the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, 8pm Tix.
