The Friday Round Up

A little more time to relax this week – although still lots to see!  Enjoy it while we have these rainy, dark nights – spring is just around the corner!

Carte Blanche 1March 22 and 23 in the last show of the season, DanceHouse brings to Vancouver Carte Blanche in Corps de Walk. The combination of the up-and-coming and the renowned results in an eclectic, exciting, and high-quality company at the forefront of the development of dance, both in Norway and abroad. On a completely different note, tonight through Sunday  Ballet BC presents the National Ballet of China in Swan Lake. On its first Canadian tour, this production of Swan Lake, choreographed by the great Russian ballerian Natalia Makarova, showcases the National Ballet of China’s solid foundation in Russian-style classical ballet. Founded in 1959, the strong, assured ensemble is grandly suited to the extreme demands of the classical style. The ardours and sense of mystery inherent in Swan Lake are beautifully framed by Peter Farmer’s darkly brooding designs. At the Queen Elizabeth, 8pm. Tix.

Starting tomorrow through March 21, the Vancouver International Dance Festival brings to Vancouver Margie Gillis, Black Grace and Joe Ink, among others.  See the full listing here.
