The Friday Round Up

Still lots to see, but looks like we are heading into the calm before the storm of National Dance Week April 22 to 29!

southasianarts2This Sunday afernoon, as part of it’s Dance Allsorts series, New Works presents South Asian Arts Bhangra/Bollywood. The arts of South Asia are rich in culture. Music and dance go hand in hand to recreate the rituals of our ancestors, keeping our culture and tradition alive through disciplined art. South Asian Arts has dazzled the bhangra and Bollywood world over the years. 2pm Roundhouse Community Centre, by donation.

April 4 – 6 dancers, musicians and theatre people come together in war.requiem, a collaborative interdisciplinary live performance exploring ideas related to the experience of war. Each artist in dance, music, media, light and costume contributed ideas that culminated into full evening work performed by dance students from SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. Get a taste of what you will see here. SFU Woodwards, 8pm, Sat matinee 2pm. Tix

Friday and Saturday April 5 and 6, Flamenco Rosario presents Mis Hermanas: Thicker than Water, My Sisters and I. In Monterrey, Mexico seven sisters get together every Tuesday for coffee – only one left home to pursue her dreams of becoming a dancer. She now wants to tell you her story before the west coast rains wash away her memories. Friday at The Act, Maple Ridge, Saturday at the Vancouver Playhouse, 8pm. Tix

One Response to “The Friday Round Up”

  1. Thanks as always for these Friday posts. We’ve seen some great performances because of them. Hope to get to the Roundhouse on Sunday and the War Requiem looks very interesting as well.
