The Friday Round Up

Well it may be hard to believe looking out the window, but it appears that we are edging toward the summer – slim pickings this week.

Saturday June 15, The Dancers of Damelahamid present Spirit Transforming, a signature new dance work . The piece damelahamid_0151combines the richness and beauty of the tradition of masked dances of the Gitxsan and also explores presenting this genre in a minimalistic way in order to relook at its primary elements, the very essence of this dance form. It tells a story that responds to these contemporary times through the main character’s portrayal of a young person in their search of self. It asks the question, “What is contemporary Aboriginal identity in traditional dance forms?” in order to create a complex understanding of diversity of Aboriginal artistic practices. At the Dance Centre, 8pm. Tix

I  n preparation for next week check out this video of Vanessa Goodman and Ziyian Kwan introduce we all know Jane, an evening of new work premiering June 21-22. Jane is the rapport that we share as women. She is a yearning to connect with others. She is an expression of autonomy. Jane is our engagement with real and imagined worlds. A stranger to each of us, familiar to all of us, we all know Jane. 8pm at the Dance Centre.
