The Friday Round Up

Brrrr…come in from the cold! What better way to spend a cold winter evening than in the company of your friends and some great dance!

Tonight and tomorrow night you still have a chance to see James Gnam and  Jacques Poulin-Denis of Montreal’s Grand Poney in two companion solos. Gnam’s creation James, co-created with SuFe -Lee, traces one man’s journey from boyhood to manhood through his relationship with the North American ballet classic, The NutcrackerTarget of God exposes the personal turmoil of an ill-fated anti-hero. With a humorous twirl, the planets align and the stage is set for a catastrophic transition. Target of God has toured internationally to critical acclaim and is the brain child of Quebec interdisciplinary dance artist Jacques Poulin-Denis of Montreal’s Grand Poney. At the Firehall Arts Centre, 8pm. Friday December 6 join the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts resident community dance companies in performance – Youth in Motion and Continuum Dance Company.This is a show for all ages performed by all ages. New works choreographed by Donna Redlick and Jeannine Miller. At Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Studio Theatre 7:30 pm. Admission by donation

SFU School for the Contemporary Arts presents Ascension December 6 – 8Ascension is an interdisciplinary performance of new contemporary music and dance, entirely organized and created by students at the School for Contemporary Arts and encompasses seven unique works of contemporary dance and live music. It is always a treat to see some of the new and upcoming creators at work! At Studio T, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 W. This Sunday December 8 New Works presents Out Innerspace Dance OiS MO small1Theatre as part of it’s Dance Allsorts. Artistic Directors David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen will share a glimpse into the unique genre-bending character-based contemporary dance style they are known for. This program will also showcase a selection of work from Modus Operandi’s aspiring professionals. At the Roundhouse Community Centre, 2pm. Tix or pay what you can at the door.
