Tis the season for the many Nutcrackers and winter student showings!

First off join the Goh Ballet tonight and tomorrow night, as well as the 20, 21 and 22, in their rendering of The Nutcracker. In this traditional rendition of a classical masterpiece experience Clara’s dream come to life as she embarks on a magical journey through the Land of Snow to the Kingdom of Sweets where she is greeted by the enchanting Sugar Plum Fairy. An unforgettable adventure awaits as her gallant Nutcracker battles the evil Mouse King and his army of mischievous mice. This heart-warming production is sure to delight audiences of all ages with more than 200 glittering costumes and dreamatic sets, danced to Tchaikovsky’s memorable score performed live by members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. Also December 14, a winter concert for the whole family to enjoy, presented by the Anna Wyman School of Dance Arts students. Featuring original choreography in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Tap, as well as holiday favourites such as ‘Big Swans’ from Swan Lake, this evening of dance is sure to delight audiences. Look for Alberta Ballet’s Nutcracker later in the month with rivetingalberts ballet nutcracker storytelling that invites everyone to share in the rich and festive holiday spirit. Choreographed by Edmund Stripe, with spectacular sets and costumes by Emmy Award-winning designer Zack Brown, The Nutcracker takes place in the opulent grandeur of 19th century Imperial Russia. Danced to the glorious Tchaikovsky score, played live by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, this production “…sparkles like a Fabergé egg…” says the Vancouver Sun and extravagantly displays more than a million dollars in stunning sets and costumes. Add scores of dancing children, mice dressed as soldiers and snowflakes as princesses, and this ballet offers pure family entertainment and a great addition to your holiday traditions.
