The Friday Round Up

Brrrrrrrrr. We feel very sorry for the poor dancers of Grupo Corpo. This is most definitely not Brazilian weather.

But regardless! The show will be amazing. Brazilian sunshine in a cold Canadian winter.  Have you got your tickets yet? No? Here’s a little sample to inspire you:

Still not convinced? The company talked to Janet Smith of the Georgia Straight  and to Deborah Meyers of the Vancouver Sun . Click to read what you can expect from this exceptional and globally celebrated company.

Other dance of note this week:

On Sunday at 2pm at the Roundhouse, New Works presents tap dancer Troy McLaughlin in celebration of Black History Month. If you’ve seen him in many, many Arts Club musical productions, you know he’s got the chops, and this solo show will be delightful, as well as informative.  Admission is by donation (suggested donation $15).

Next week, Feb 13, 14, & 15, Movent’s amazing and amazingly long-lived Dances for a Small Stage presents works by choreographers Stacey Tookey, Peter Chu, the DELIGHTFUL Jim Hibbard, Dancehouse’s secret boyfriend Rob Kitsos (he’ll present our next Speaking of Dance, April 1) and more, performed by an array of Vancouver dancers. We loved Peter in Crystal Pite’s Dark Matters, and look forward to this 30th edition of a really fun and innovative series. Tickets $20 at the door, or at Eventbrite –we suggest Eventbrite, as this event is always packed. At Ukrainian Orthodox Community Centre, 154 E. 10th Ave.
