Dialogue on Dramaturgy

Are you interested in HOW dance is made? In WHY choreographers stage things the way they do?
Attend Dialogue on Dramaturgy this weekend and find out from Pieter C. Scholten, one half of ICKamsterdam and long-time dramaturgical partner to choreographer Emio Greco. (He’s the dude in the glasses.)

This two-part event includes:

Saturday April 5– Performance of Rocco. Vancouver Playhouse – 8pm

Sunday April 6– Dialogue on Dramaturgy with Pieter C. Scholten, Co-Artistic Director of ICKamsterdam
World Studio, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, SFU Woodward’s
149 W Hastings St. Vancouver, BC
11am – 1pm

$39.50 ($35 + facility fee + GST) (That’s a substantial savings on JUST the price of a ticket!)

Rocco is inspired by Luchino Visconti’s film Rocco I suoi Fratelli, a story of brotherhood and the struggle for a better life. The potential of physical and psychological extremes that Visconti explores in his film, layer by layer, resound in this dance performance of Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten. The intense surrender which is evident in the boxing scenes of the film finds its parallel in the physical dedication of the dancers, who trained with an Italian boxing teacher during the work’s development.

Participants will see the show on Saturday, then, in Sunday’s presentation, theatre artist Scholten will discuss his collaboration with Co-Artistic Director and choreographer Emio Greco of ICK Amsterdam (The International Choreographic Arts Centre) and his vision of dramaturgy. Videos illustrating conversations between ICK Amsterdam guest artist choreographers and their dramaturgs will be followed by an open discussion between Pieter and workshop participants to discuss work that is presently being done here in Vancouver, dramaturgy for non-narrative formats, and possibilities for the future.

To register, call 604.801.6225 or email info@dancehouse.ca
