The 149 Arts Society is proud to announce the 2nd Annual LAUNCH Festival!, an interdisciplinary performance and showcase for Vancouver’s professional emerging artists. LAUNCH Festival! 2013 featured a wide array of industry mentors, including Max Wyman, a Vancouver writer and arts policy consultant, and one of Canada’s leading cultural commentators; award-winning musician, songwriter and composer Veda Hille was our host. This year we welcome back mentors Jim Smith, producer of DanceHouse Vancouver; Emma Lancaster, PR powerhouse whose clients have included DanceHouse and The Arts Club; Gary Cristall, co-founder of the Vancouver Folk Festival; Vanessa Goodman, company member of Dancers Dancing under Judith Garay; and Murray Gibson, Talent Agent for RED Management.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to showcase their work in a public showcase before a panel of artistic professionals, attend workshops taught by industry mentors, and receive advice from a mentor in their chosen artistic discipline. We want to go even higher for LAUNCH Festival! 2014 and are looking for innovative submissions that will push conventional boundaries. We are looking for original and exciting material and will be accepting in the following mediums: music, media arts, performance arts, dance, and new forms.

What’s a professional emerging artist? Professional emerging artists have made a personal commitment to a career in the arts, they have specialized training in the field (though not necessarily in academic institutions), they have a history of creation and/or presentation in a professional context, but are not yet recognized by professional associations, and they are in need of professional development and exposure.

Additional application details can be found on SFU’s webpage.
