1135 sThis weekend 24 and 25 April Artistic Director/Choreographer Paras Terezakis’ premieres U>Waltz.  The piece takes the audience on a bizarre and beautiful journey into a world of surprise – both delightful and dark. Known for pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance, Kinesis Dance somatheatro works in collaboration with innovative new approaches to music, sound, video and lighting design to explore the elusive notion of utopia and its contrasting peril of dystopia. Inspired by Ulysses’ as a metaphor for a voyage of discovery, the work offers explosive energy, contemplative imagery and provocative physical theatre. A shuttle bus will take you there if you have no car: leaves the Dance Centre 7pm and Pacific Station (nr Main St Skytrain) 7:15 pm, $5 roundtrip. At the Shadbolt Theatre, 8pm. Friday thru Sunday, Dances for a Small Stage presents Small Stage Pocket Festival. Both a classical and a contemporary program will be offered, with works by some of Vancouver’s emerging choreographers including Karissa Barry, Lina Fitzner
Caitlin Griffin and Caroline Liffman. There are a variety of shows over the course of the weekend, so see the schedule and to buy tix go here. At the PAL Studio Theatre, 581 Cardero St, Vancouver.
International Dance Day is April 29!! The Shadbolt Centre starts it’s celebration early, Saturday April 25 with performances by Continuum Dance Company & Youth In Motion Dance Company, Anya Saugstad, Naomi Brand & Adam Grant Warren, Warehaus Dance Collective, Siobhan Sloane-Seale & Walter Kubanek. On Wednesday April 29, the ScotiaDance Centre will be celebrating all day and into the evening at various locations around the city! Go to the Dance Centre website for more details.
