The Friday Round Upnn

It’s kind of a quiet week on the dance scene. Maybe it was planned that way so that we can go out and enjoy the last days of sunshine? Enjoy!

Until Saturday October 3, Vancouver choreographer Joe Laughlin, and his company JOE INK, present the 4ourworld premiere of 4OUR. The work’s roots run deep and shine a light on the arc of life – from early childhood through the inevitable aging process, until we lose the people we love. The resulting creation explores the power of memory and the formation of memories as we navigate through the years. Injected with melancholy, humour and celebration, 4OUR is a joyous and poignant reflection on the evolution of our lives and on those who influence, support, protect, and ultimately leave us – yet the memories ineffably linger on.Laughlin will perform alongside dance-greats Gioconda Barbuto, Heather Dotto, and Kevin Tookey. Dancers dancingJumping ahead a bit, next Thursday October 9 you can check out some contemporary dance and tap dance on the same night!  Starting off the evening, The FINE LINE ~ twisted angels is a one hour multi-media dance performance choreographed by Judith Garay, Artistic Director of Dancers Dancing. This piece explores in movement, sound, and image how we perceive our internal and external world. Ephemeral, sometimes transformative, the moments between perceiving, sensing and cognition create a rich tapestry of somatic images. Take a look at the trailer. The piece incorporates video images by Flick Harrison, music by Patrick Pennefather, and is performed by Vanessa Goodman, Bevin Poole and Antonio Somera. On the same night, Danny Nielsen, one of Canada’s brightest rising young tap talents, will also perform in one of his own works. Check out a video of his work here. At the Evergreen Cultural Centre, Coquitlam 8pm. Tix
