Next Tuesday February 16 ( and the 2 Tuesdays after that), MascallDance presents BLOOM, a casual and playful, informal showing of dance wine and comedy. It works like this: A sommelier selects a wine for each work based on adjectives each of the 6 choreographers uses to describe their dance. Spectators are invited to sip a soupcon of the wine while viewing a 5-minute excerpt of the dance. Then the brilliant and audacious comic storyteller Jennifer Griffin tickles funny bones by interpreting the dance just viewed. Jennifer is able to wittily articulate what is crossing the audience’s mind and has the nerve to say it aloud. Interpretation is laid bare in a sensorial way. Choreography by:Body Narratives Collective, Lily Cryan, Jennifer Mascall, Olivia Neill, Zahra Shahab and Claire Twiddy. Doors at 4:30pm | Show 5pm-6pm | Latecomers welcome. $10 | Entrance and 6 wine pairings. 1130 Jervis St

Next Thursday February 18, as part of the Dance Centre’s Discover Dance series, the energy and skill of a new generation takes the stage with a performance by the talented young dancers of Modus Operandi. Established in 2007, this rigorous training program run by Vancouver’s Out Innerspace Dance Theatre produces versatile and accomplished contemporary dancers who perform with technical power and theatrical intelligence, and progress to work professionally with companies across Canada. Scotiabank Dance Centre, 12pm. FREE!
