Hold on for the ride – soooo much dance to see from now until…well, at least until the sun is shining once again!

betroffenheit_160215This coming Tuesday February 23 DanceHouse presents Speaking of Dance, with Crystal Pite, Artistic Director of Kidd Pivot, and Jonathon Young, Artistic Director of Electric Theatre Company, as they speak with Janet Smith of the Georgia Straight about their collaboration on Betroffenheit. At SFU Woodwards, 7pm. FREE.

Unfortunately you are unlikely to find a ticket for Betroffenheit, presented by DanceHouse next weekend, because it is SOLD OUT. But you can read a review from the Canadian tour here, and even see some video.

The Chutzpah! Festival opened yesterday, and as always there are some great dance Shayofferings. This Saturday February 20 thru Monday 22nd, as part of a double bill, Shay Kuebler Radical System Art once again takes us on a breathtakingly wild wide, with his extraordinary dancers and the World Premiere of Telemetry Volume 1. The piece springs upon a mixed language of swing, bebop jazz, house and contemporary dance to relay human communication and interaction around the science of radio systems. Joining Radical System Art, MADBOOTS DANCE, a young company of five male dancers founded and directed by choreographer/dancers Jonathan Campbell and Austin Diaz, makes its Western Canadian debut with (SAD BOYS). The New York Times takes note of MADBOOTS’ “sharp, elegant movements, dark theatricality and unashamed intimacy.” Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre, 8pm and Sunday matinee 2pm. February 23, the Dance Centre invites you to 12 Minutes Max, a program  supporting the development of new dance and movement-based works through studio research, critical feedback and community dialogue. Come out to see  works in progress by Gemma Crowe, Daelik and Chick Snipper, and Iris Lau. Scotiabank Dance Centre, 6pm. FREE

February 25 to 27 SFU School for the Contemporary Arts presents an evening of student choreography in MOVEABLE 15. SCAstudents showcase their creative talents by combining dance specific skills with their wider educational interests at SFU. Studio D, SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, SFU Woodwards, 8pm. Tix
