The Friday Round Up
It is that time folks – time to sign off for the summer months and head for the beach (although maybe not today, given the rain…)! But before we leave we want to let you know about some exciting happenings through the summer and into the fall.

First off, check out the DanceHouse 2016/17 season, with an eclectic array of contemporary dance. The season begins with New York based Jessica Lang Dance in their Canadian debut, with a program of mixed repertoire that includes their latest work—The Thousand Yard Stare. Show number two of the season is Canadian favourite BJM (Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal) with a triple bill, including Rouge, choreographed by Rodrigo Pederneiras of Brazilian company Grupo Corpo who provoked standing ovations in the DanceHouse 2014 season. And the finally, the season ends with Compagnie Hervé Koubi (France). Twelve Algerian and Burkina Faso dancers, mostly coming from street dance and hip-hop, perform in a contemporary dance work that combines capoeira, martial arts, urban and contemporary dance, with evocative Islamic imagery. Season subscriptions are now on sale. Don’t take your chances and miss a sold-out show, and there are great savings to be found if you subscribe!
If you have never gone to the Dancing on the Edge Festival (DOTE), you don’t know what you are missing! July 7 – 16, experience 10 days of contemporary dance in theatres, in churches, in the park, and in the Woodwards Atrium! In a series of mixed programs, this year’s DOTE includes artists such as Vision Impure/Noam Gagnon, Frédérick Gravel and Étienne Lepage, The Biting School | Arash & Aryo Khakpour, and Tara Cheyenne Performance | Tara Cheyenne, among many, many others. Get your passes and tickets here.
And finally, when the time comes to celebrate the coming of fall, check out the Dance Centre’s Open House September 10, a chance to experience a host of different dance styles in a day of free classes, workshops, studio showings and events at Scotiabank Dance Centre: full schedule to be announced.
Have a great summer!!
